POSITION TITLE: Sports Medicine Physical Therapist Assistant

CERTIFICATIONS: Certified Athletic Trainer/ Physical Therapy Assistant

GENERAL FUNCTION: Operating within the policies, procedures, and practices of Core Health Partners, LLC, this position is responsible for evaluating needs of referred patients, formulating treatment plans, and providing quality physical and aquatic therapy services. This position has an emphasis on sports medicine using a variety of physical techniques and therapies in the rehabilitation and treatment of athletes who are suffering from injuries or illnesses. This position serves as a navigator for the student athletes injuries providing the referrals to the team doctor and communicating to the parents and coaches under the guidelines of HIPPA. Overseeing the athletic training needs for the world class Academy Sanchez Casal Tennis tournaments includes serving the needs of the academy students, who live onsite and the athletes who come to the campus for major tournament competition. The Sports Medicine Physical Therapist Assistant is the navigator for all sport related injury and medical illness to assure the students in the academy are well cared for. The expectation of this position is to also assist in the area of physical therapy in a newly opened medically integrated wellness center, as well as fill in and assist in overseeing the personal training program.

MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Active, unrestricted license to practice Physical Therapy within the state of Florida.
  • Possess athletic trainer certification and license.
  • Knowledge of advanced physical therapy treatment procedures for concussion treatment.

4. American Red Cross CPR-PR/AED/First Aid Certifications or equivalent certifications approved by Community Health Partners.

5. American Red Cross Blood Borne Pathogens Training or equivalent training approved by Community Health Partners.

6. Strong computer knowledge and skills, specifically Microsoft Office, Power point, Excel and EHR documentation.

  • Attend trainings and/or courses to maintain certification/license as required for your job.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

GENERAL PHYSICAL AND AQUATIC THERAPY SERVICES

  • Perform physical and aquatic therapy patient care services adhering to APTA guidelines for physical therapy best practices & code of ethics.
  • Completes accurate and timely documentation of services in accordance with professional and compliance standards to best reflect the patient's status and needs and facilitate communication for continuity of care.
  • Review and manage patient plan of care, goals and treatment in response to patient changing needs.
  • Comply with Florida Board of Professional Licensure with respect to licensure requirements and supervisory rules and regulations.
  • Demonstrate appropriate and effective written, verbal and non-verbal communication with

patients and staff to protect private health information.

  • Communicate timely with physical therapist regarding patient treatment plan, progress, and physical therapy goals.
  • Appropriately operates equipment related to delivery of physical therapy procedures and treatments.
  • Follow equipment maintenance protocols and communicate potential problems with equipment to supervisor in a timely manner.

SPORTS MEDICINE - ATHLETIC TRAINING

  • Perform athletic training services adhering to BOC Standards and best practices.
  • Provide injury screens and emergency aid at sporting events and/or exercise environment.
  • Assess injuries and develop treatment and exercise plans within the scope of practice.
  • Re-evaluate treatment plans, as needed, to ensure maximum athlete/patient/client benefit.
  • Utilize appropriate assistive devices to protect athletes from injury.
  • Report progress and medical changes to referring physician and physical therapist in a timely manner.
  • Educate clients, families, and coaches regarding injuries, risk factor modification, and exercise programs.
  • Conduct assessments of the fitness level of players, athletes or participants and advise on an exercise plan.
  • Assist as needed in pre-participation sports physicals.
  • Conduct injury screening clinics, educational programs, and workshops to promote safety, sports recovery, and injury prevention.
  • Explain and update safety rules governing daily training, recreational activities, and the use of professional exercise equipment.
  • Advise players or athletes on basics of sports nutrition within the scope of practice.
  • Manage and deliver fitness programs and recreational athlete training regimens/programs for the general population and special populations.
  • Assist in the development of an annual budget with respect to athletic training equipment and supply needs.
  • Demonstrate appropriate and effective written, verbal and non-verbal communication with athletes/ patients/clients and staff to protect private health information.
  • Follow equipment maintenance protocols and communicate potential problems with equipment to supervisor in a timely manner.
